In the spring of 2023, Miron Zownir sets out to document the harsh realities of life in Canada’s urban centres. His photographic journey takes him over 7,000 kilometres, from Montreal on the east coast to the western shores of Vancouver, passing through the cities of Lethbridge and Winnipeg along the way. Zownir illuminates social challenges facing Canada’s larger cities, revealing the destructive effects of the fentanyl crisis in Vancouver and the deep socio-economic divides, particularly between Indigenous and non-Indigenous populations in Winnipeg, one of the country’s most economically challenged cities.
